Sandlapper Publishing Company was established in 1983 by Frank N. Handal (1931-2004).   Mr. Handal purchased the book publishing division of the Sandlapper Magazine of Lexington, South Carolina and began his company in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  Mr. Handal published books about South Carolina and added other publishers books to his list to create a central source of distribution. In 1997, the company was sold to Christian and Amanda Gallman of Orangeburg, South Carolina. 

Sandlapper Publishing Company is a regional, independent publisher and distributor of books about the South, primarily South Carolina.  We specialize in nonfiction books of history, travel, cooking, recreation, photography, natural history and folklore.  Subjects of special interest are slavery, Gullah, the American Revolution, the Civil War, plantations, geology, lighthouses, day trips, canoe paddling, the CSS H. L. Hunley, sweetgrass baskets, Charleston and the Palmetto State's natural history.
